I am trying to identify a Grumman F6F-3 Hellcat in Majuro Lagoon, Marshall Islands. The aircraft was stripped of it's engine, main instrument panel, left and right consoles, and all six .50 cal guns and dumped in the lagoon. Pacific Wrecks (Pacific Wrecks - F6F-3 Hellcat Bureau Number 25116) lists the aircraft as BuNo 25116 with VF-39. While I do believe the aircraft was likely from VF-39 I believe a couple other BuNo are possible. Any ideas on how to ID this plane?

The aircraft data plate was located on the left side of the cockpit. This has date of manufacture and BuNo...

Geo,

Unfortunately, the plate was removed. Much of the interior was stripped. All that remain are the rudder pedals.
