Good stuff Andy, and has confirmed that it was the Bren Gun parts I used.
Note that the cowling fasteners weren't as prominent on the 2-stage nacelles compared to the earlier engine installations.

Thanks everyone. Now that I've butchered the nacelles, I'll change the build title from "P.R. Mk. IV" to either a IX or XVI once my subject is finalized.
Don't think so Vic. Resin is not very strong and I don't want to risk unnecessary damage. The openings are fine as far as I'm concerned.
Thanks for that Terry. You are right but they are definitely there, as I see every Saturday when I walk by both of our Merlin 113/114 units. Ours also has the tropical filters as you can see below.

Ah, I forgot your "1:1" scale was a two stage !
I'm sure you probably know, but if doing a PR.XVI, you'll need the bulged bomb bay doors (and the bulged side windows mentioned earlier).
For my conversion of the Tamiya kit to a B.XVI, I "stole" the bulged bay part from the Airfix B/PR.XVI kit (which was converted to a PR.IX).
There used to be a resin bulge available from Paragon Design, now out of production, but it sometimes pops up on Ebay.
However, it's fairly easy to mould one onto the fuselage, using "Milliput", as I did about 30 years ago (can't find the pics though !).

Terry, not sure all XVI's had the bulged doors but will check my references. The one shown in post #11 is captioned as a XVI but doesn't have the bulged doors. The canopy side blisters and the Navigators dome are there though.

Yep, you're correct.
Just checked my refs, and PR.XVI didn't have the bulged doors - brain fart on my part, it was the PR.35 I was thinking of !!
So, saves a bit of work.

Thanks Kevin. I don't think I'm going to add a lot of anal detail to this one as I went all out on my other Tamiya Mossie a few years back. But I will add some where it's an obvious need, at least to me.
OK, so it's time for the surgery to get the resin Merlins on. I first glued the wing halves together after first adding the landing light lenses, which insert from the inside. The next step was then to saw away the upper cowl that extends from the upper wing half.
Dry fit after sawing off the cowl - pretty good.
However, a couple of things need taking care of elsewhere. In the pic below, I found that the large block inside the casting (yellow arrow) fouled the front edge of the wheel well so I had to remove it with some nippers. Secondly, whereas one side of the cowl lines up nicely with the nacelle groove, the other side seems to have shrunk inwards, creating a 2mm gap that will require a spacer to push the wall out.
I went ahead and glued the top of the cowl and the side that fit using CA gel and then added a cut piece of sprue to push the other wall out. The nacelle was then glued in place.
Checking the fit at the sides, the outer seam looks pretty good, though it's not yet glued.
The inner one, not so much. I can actually close it with mild pressure but I didn't want to fiddle with it anymore tonight.
I'll need to pick up some thin CA tomorrow while I'm out so that I can run it in the seams that aren't yet glued. I'll fuss with the above fits when I'm next back at the bench. Thanks for looking in.
