The car might have been named after her but the aircraft was definitely not. All the Lockheed airliners were named after stars or star groups and this was at least the fourth Electra that Lockheed made, starting with the Model 10 Electra in 1934.

The Lockheed 12 was the Electra Junior and the Lockheed 14 was the super Electra.
 
Even further back, the Vega, Sirius, and Altair. Orion, Big Dipper and Little Dipper were named after constellations.

Yosemite Valley July 20,1921. Child is Virginia Varney and woman pilot is her mother, Aileen Varney. Seen with Chief Ranger Forest S. Townsley. Mrs. Varney and her husband, Walter T. Varney operated an early air taxi service. Virginia was first child flown into Yosemite. Found in Yosemite Digital Archives.
