The upcoming Group Build has made me think and I'm trying to broaden my knowledge into areas that I've not spent a lot of time on, what are any of the "must have" books about the RAAF or RNZAF in WW2?

I'm not sure about "must have's", but there are many excellent books detailing the role played by RAAF units and personnel in WWII. Some good ones that pop into mind are-
"Whispering death" - an account of RAAF Beaufighter actions in the PTO
"War without glory" - about the struggles and sacrifices made by the RAAF in the first few months of the war in the Pacific - particulary the hard hit but gallent Hudson crews.
"Desert Warriors" - very detailed account of Australian P-40 operations in the desert.
"The decisive factor" - the vital role played by the RAAF in defeating the Japanese at Milne Bay
"Spitfire's over Darwin" - the 1943 raids as told from the Allied point of view
"Song of the Beauforts" - excellent account of Beaufort operations in and around New Guinea
"Black cats" - a must have for PBY fans
"Gestapo hunters" - 464 sqn of the Amiens raid fame
and I could go on and on....

Have a browse of these sites VB, you might find something of interest.

I guess It really depends on what you would want to build re RNZAF aircraft?

Any of the RNZF squadrons formed under Article XV creating
such squadrons in the RNZAF from 485 to 490, all manned by Kiwi
servicemen/woman from Singapore to Europe and West Africa flying
Buffaloes in Singapore, Mosquitos/Spitfires or Catalinas/Sunderlands
(488 serving twice, once in Singapore and next in Europe)

You have 75 Squadron flying Wellingtons

You have the Pacific, from 14 to 40 Squadrons flying aircraft
such as the P40, TBF-1c Avenger, SBD4/5 Dauntless, F4U-1/FG-1
Corsair, Mk III Sunderland, Catalinas, Venturas, Hudsons, C47s (Dakota)
Harvards, even (early war) Vildebeest

Plenty of aircraft to choose from:D

Good books to read

Wings Over the Pacific (Alex Horn -former Corsair pilot)
Avengers (Wally Ingham) -Wally also wrote "We Also served"
Last Stand Singapore (history of 488 Squadron) (Graeme Clayton)
Portrait of an Air Force (history of the RNZAF)
Golden Age of New Zealand Flying Boats

Good websites

WWII RNZAF

Wings Over New Zealand - Home

Hope that helps
