No, you've not paid attention. Where is your 'fact' that says it was a 1:'1.8' advantage for the D.520?

Yes it is. Especially since the aircraft they were facing off against were from carriers which are quite dangerous. And where's your 'facts' for the D.520 shooting down 44 aircraft?

No, no.. the 44 allied losses are the adition of all the air-air losses in 8-10 nov 1942. Some of them fell prey of Hawk 75 and a few to the MB-151/152.

But mostly of them was shot down by the D-520.

The allied fighters included some F4F and P-39F.

And where's your source that said most were by D.520? I know of one engagement where Hawk-75s shot down 7 F4F Wildcats...

I've also read the Seafires gave the D.520 a healthy licking.

I really dont like the D.520. Just my opinion but I dont think it looks very good and I dont think it was that great of a fighter. Yeah it did okay against the Germans but what did it bring them nothing at all. Some people say the D.520 never reached its full potential because it did not have time. Well how much time did it need. It was started approximatly the same time as the Spitfire and the Bf-109 and they were already better then the 520. Even if it had reached its potential (assuming that it could or ever would) the Spit and the 109 would have surpassed and other aircraft were being developed that were better than it anyhow.

Don't you think that's quite amazing though that Wildcats were brought down by Hawk-75s, equipped with six Browning .303 cal! Admittedly in that very same engagement 15 Hawk-75s were lost.

The best representative of the Russian aviation culture at the time would be the IL-2. They've always wanted to have the biggest machine in the air.

The IL-2 was not that big, she was just heavy because of the armour.

Il-2

Length 39 ft 4.5 inch
Height 11 ft 1.75 inch
Wing Span 47 ft 11 inch
Empty weight 9976 lb
Operational weight 14021 lb max

Ju-87B Stuka

Length: 36 ft. 5 in.
Height: 12 ft. 9 in
Wing span: 45 ft. 3¼ in.

Weights:
Empty: 6,080 lbs.
Loaded: 9,371 lbs.

As you can see the Il-2 was not much bigger than the Luftwaffes Ju-87B Stuka. It just wighed a hell of lot more because of the armour and it could carry more armament.

ppfftt, the vickers wellesley was bigger........

Vickers Wellesley I

Span- 74 ft 7 in (22.74 m)
Length- 39 ft 3 in (11.96 m)
Wing area- 586 sq ft (54.4m2)

Empty weight- 6,760 Ib (3,066 kg)
Gross weight- 12,500 Ib (5,670 kg)
