I can not speak about how he treated his team mates, but I had a chance to meet him and he took a few minutes to listen and speak with me. I told him how much I enjoyed watching him defeat my favorite baseball team! He insisted I deserved the thanks for watching and enjoying the games. It was just a chance meeting in a Hotel lobby he was not in his uniform and he seemed surprised than an American recognized him. I was impressed by his poise and his willing to take a few moments to speak with a stranger. .In the case of another Japanese baseball player of legend, Ichiro Suzuki (50), his flaw was, if any, he was not necessarily friendly to his team mates. He was a true seeker of baseball too much IMO.
