Anyone know which of the below profiles is more accurate please ?

Was it protecting the home islands? Than it should have had white around the...the...red dot! IIRC

Looking closer, the top one has a black blue anti glare panel in front of the cockpit, but the lower one has a white ring around the Hinormaru !

Looking at many pictures of the Ki-61 the anti glare panel can be seen at most of them, especially if these are of the NMF. But these of the green camo seem to have the panel or don't. Below two images as the example...

As far as the white ring around the Hinomaru is concerned... as Vic said methinks.

The first one looks correct.
Famous Airplanes of the World. Vol 17 says,

Ki-61-I-hei 39th Flight Education Squadron
Yokoshiba Airfield in 1945

In deep green camo.
All hinomaru(red dots) have no white edge.
Squadron marking stylized the number 39 is in red and has white edge.
Designation like "20" for example is in white for the rudder top and in black for the landing gear cover.

Of course pictures were not taken in color, but are digitally converted. Yet in my opinion they can be helpful.

In this case I would say lower drawing OP has presented is more accurate.

Just had a thought, understand sides bare metal or grey ?

Underside should be bare metal except the fabric parts like aileron and elevator in light grey green which illustrators often forget.
