They're impressive
If you recall the Tesla that Top Gear showed a couple of years ago, it got up to 60mph in a sub-4 second time, they've got impressive torque. It stuffed the petrol-driven car in the drag race, though I can't recall what the petrol-driven car was, it was no slouch.

Not much in the way of range and too long to charge up seem to be the sticking points
 
Yeah it would. Pretty cool all the same.

Jaguar are doing something similar. 4 electric engines + 2 mini-gas turbines (jet engines) = 780bhp and 0-62 in 2.3 seconds...

If you are talking about Britain though, would there be much point? I don't think Britain gets that much sunshine. Even in Australia, the solar powered car is a little bit of a questionable concept. I mean do you need to wash it every single day to use it effectively? More work than it is worth.
