For the DFW and North Texas members, the owner of MAL Hobbies has been moved into an long term care facility and can no longer run his hobby shop.
Friends of the hobby shop are currently selling off the kits and books to raise money for the owner. They are open from 12:00 to 5:00 Monday through Saturday. (Except for Labor day.)

I don't know what is left, or if there is anything worth buying. MAL has been a fixture of the modeling hobby in DFW for decades and it might be worth your time to support the owner by stopping by when they reopen on Tuesday.

Okay folks, here's what I picked up for $160.00
Not a "killing" but very reasonable prices to pay to support the owner now in a nursing home with dementia.

The shop closes in 3 weeks, I sighted an old Johan Rufe, the Nichimo Toryu and a Hasegawa Museum Kit of the Wright Flyer.

I would say you did make a killing...the JV 44 book alone goes for big bucks. Jealous.

My cousin says he it's 45 minutes away from his house. Didn't even bother asking him. No worries. Sad to see it going out of biz with such a pedigree.

With so many hobby shops around in the DFW area (sarc) I guess he has one closer. (It's about 30 minutes for me, or about half of a one way work commute.)

Sorry to hear the shop is closing after so many years.
I've known Ed jr. for a long, long time but hadn't seen him at any of the IPMS conventions for quite a while.
I wish him and his family Peace and Comfort at this time in his life.

I was there last summer. There is a historical marker by the front door honouring the shop. I'll try to stop by this weekend.

They did a lot of wooden plane kits as I remember. They also had 0 scale figures that I remember and hope they are still there.

Hi all:

How sad!

I remember going there for wooden airplane kits, slot cars (they had a cool track you could rent), and plastic models, as my tastes changed from 14 on...

A wonderful hive of interesting people & things!

I would go by to help support them but I'm in the Pacific Northwest now, a bit of a schlep.
