Well, if the members poll is "best" then I would ask that other GB participants chime in with their opinions. I can't speak for Wayne Little , Wurger and Airframes but if you and other GB participants would rather see builds judged solely on the members poll then I would be HAPPY (note emphasis) to stop spending many hours of my valuable time poring over the entries and assigning scores based on build quality, paint, and decal application. Believe me, it's not easy and, quite frankly, often a pain in the ass.

I would say I appreciate the judges time, effort and expertise in providing impartial and technical application of their opinions. That's my thoughts on the matter.

Which ever way is most impartial is the best way to judge. I believe our judges, longtime members, have seen it all. They have been doing it with the right skills to judge. I don't think they can be swayed by sentimentality. If it's a B-17, it'll probably get my vote, for instance.
The members poll is a lot of fun for us. It really is tough to call which build is the "winner of winners".

All great builds. The members choice poll for me is the most accurate of the judging.

The members poll is something Wojtek kindly sets up for us to have a bit of fun and the end result is often swayed by sentimentality of a favored aircraft type or the striking look of the model or maybe just because it look pretty.

Judging on the other hand reflects the skill of the builder: the neatness of paintwork, the alignment of wings, tail, wheels, cockpit fitment etc and also the positioning and setting of the decals. Believe me, assessing all these details from the pictures provided can at times be a real pain.

As for the judging, it's a very hard and time consuming job with the end results often only 0.5 of a point separating the top spot. Judges should be applauded for giving time and effort and skill to these GBs. Their efforts along with Andy's sterling work in comping the competition categories help greatly in keep these competitions running. It is the competitiveness of these GBs that counts and for it to be a success we need authentic judging.

On the brighter side, members and our judges have been hacking plastic and assessing our building skills for just on 16 years. This is an amazing feat and all members past and present should take pride in being a part of something so unique and challenging. I can recall that when compiling the GBs from 2013 thru 2018, one member had no faith in the GBs lasting that long. How wrong they were.

Even IPMS is Judged and has a Visitors choice.
The only thing missing is the critique by the judges. But then that would encourage rock throwing........ why me!!!!
IPMS NSW has weekly showings, members choices. Annually, judged along with members choice.
Beers all around for our volunteer judges!!!!!
