My Dad was a Navy pilot in WW2. He told me he lost a lot of friends at Midway in the TBD. His aircraft of choice was the TBM. He was a Captain and in charge of Advanced Training at Pensacola during WW2. Those were great years for me. Airplanes everywhere. Great times to be alive.

Hi Guys. I have around 30 years of Air Classics, Airpower, Wings, Air International and Fine Scale Modeler and some others.
I have been going back through some of these and in one I found an article on the Vought Kingfisher. I have a special relationship with this little plane. I was lucky enough to spend WW2 on Pensacola Naval Air Station. My Dad was a Navy Captain who was head of Advanced Air Training. Needless to say those were great times. My Dad was very busy and we hardly saw him except at dinner most of the time. However, the war ended in August of 1945 and the Navy immediately began downsizing as fast as possible. One Friday night in October my Dad told me to get ready, we are going flying tomorrow. Early Saturday morning we were off. First stop was the ramp where they Kingfishers were. One was ready to go. There was an airman there who took charge of me. Up the ladder into the back seat. I was strapped in, sitting in his lap. My Dad flew around for about an hour and a half. Over Pensacola Bay and out over the Gulf. They had rigged up a flight helmet and goggles (way too big) on me. Finally landed and they rigged the beaching gear and we ran up the ramp and shut down. Awesome. After that rode in Stearman, SNJ, SBD, PBY, and my Dad's favorite TBM. A long but totally memorial day. Only model of the kingfisher that I know of was the 1/48 Monogram. I built five or six of them in all different colors and FAA markings. Here is the magazine and article. At 87, I expect when I kick, all these magazines will go to the shredder.

Hi, 87 oh my.. now that is heavy duty survival body survival.
Box it it in. Google a local history club. Sent.

Me again. Back in the 90's about the time Revell was taking over Monogram, this hobby shop that i ordered models from had a deal. This was a box that had 5 Kingfishers parts, decals and instructions in plastic bags and 5 SBD's as well. I ordered this and I still have it out in my garage. I imagine the parts are warped and of course the decals are worthless by now. I have to get one of my grandsons to come over and get the box off the top rack. Try to get that done next week. See what shape they are in. Can you buy a kingfisher now? Of all things I saw a 1/32 scale on the internet for $425. By the way, I paid $4.99 for the box. I am working on a SBD and F4F at the same time. Macular Degeneration finally got my right eye so trying to get this done with one eye. Everybody have a nice day. Cheers. 14B

Hi Guys Having a problem and need some help. My 1977 Airbrush gave up the ghost yesterday. My 1977 compressor still running strong. What airbrush are you all using now days?
I need to get some parts painted before I can move on of these two models.
Any suggestions would be most welcome.

I actually have three: Harder & Steenbeck Ultra, Iwata HP-C Plus, and an old Paasche VLC. Your choice(s) will depend on what your end use will be and price range

There's also a review of the Harder & Steenbeck "Ultra" that I posted in the modelling section.
I use the "Ultra" for precision work (such as fine lines or mottles) as well as general work, and also use an inexpensive AB Airbrush for clear coats or wider coverage of a single colour.
