Oshkosh!

One aircraft I really wanted to see at Oshkosh was the B-29, and I wasn't disappointed. Both flying examples tipped up and I got a good look at both, one more so than the other, but to begin with, a wee tribute to Fifi, the Commemorative Air Force's B-29.

I didn't know it at the time I took this photo, but this Fat Man casing was actually built in 1945!

Finally, Fifi and Doc together.

I'll be posting pictures of Doc real soon.

WOW.

Brilliant set of pics mate !
I'm getting to see stuff I didn't because I was doing other 'stuff so looking forward to some more

Thanks mate. There was so much to see and I missed out on a lot, but I got to see what I wanted, so mission accomplished. Obviously, my big thing was to see the warbirds, so my photos are a bit one sided

Continuing with my homage to the B-29, some images of Doc. This photo was the first time I had seen a B-29 in flight, it was cruising over the airfield while I was snapping aircraft in the static parks on the first day of the show.

These photos were taken at Appleton, rather than Wittman, where Doc was operating from. Doc has to be my favourite of the two because of her clean lines and polished metal finish. She looks like a Silverplate B-29 without the turrets.

This is Oshkosh taken from Doc's tail gunner's position. It gives scale to the sheer size of the event.

These photos were taken from the left hand side blister.

This is Warbird Central, with B-25s, a single B-17, C-47s, T-6s, T-34s, P-51s and others visible, with Warbird Alley visible above the cross runway filled with T-28s and various other types.

A curious thing (cabin pressure regulator - it's written on it!) next to the pressure bulkhead in the rear compartment.
