How about a Mustang built light a Lightning?

I still need to do some work on it but I'm happy with it so far. Maybe use the fuselages of A P-82 instead of a P-51 to give it more length

I think I need to stretch the fuselage/engine booms some, starting just in front of the radiator intake. This will not only give it the extra length I think it needs, but will also move the intake back since like this in interferes with where the main gear leg should be.
I wish I had the time to kitbash one of these like I did with the twin P-40
 
This is a very interesting although long video from a guy who saw this thread and became interested enough with the twin P-40 that he did a massive amount of research on it which he shows here with a lot of humor. He managed to prove that the picture was taken at the Curtiss plant in New York. In the end there are no definitive answers but his conclusion that it was probably something built out of scrapped P-40's, probably soon after the end of the war by some board and possibly drunk maintenance personal agrees with the conclusion I stated in post #47.
