Pennington P-51 'Lucy Gal' Memorial Project

Hey all,

It's been a while since I posted here, but I am back. A few years ago, I began a project to honor a Tuskegee Airman from my hometown (Rochester, NY), Flight Officer Leland "Sticks" Pennington. Leland went Missing in Action on 4/21/45. He was flying his P-51 named 'Lucy Gal,' and our aim is to build an airworthy replica of his Mustang. I had college, and then family illnesses pop-up which made me sideline the effort for a few years. Well, now I am back. I have learned a lot more about Leland and 'Lucy Gal' since starting this all back up this past summer.

I still have a few smaller parts (gun camera, pitot tube, a few instruments) to start with. Below I'll leave links for my website (soon to be upgraded) and social media sites (where I highlight Leland's flight logs "On This Day," 80 years later), along with a series of articles I just wrote for Vintage Aviation News on the project.

4/21/25 will be the 80th of his disappearance, and I want to do something special that will really make this project take-off. So, stay tuned...
