Got it. 6C was assigned to the 14th Liaison Squadron. It was part of the 9th AF, originally based in Cranage, England, near Cheshire. As D-Day approached, the shifted to RAF Ibsley in Hampshire, the Southampton.
It should be noted that Maj Randall W. Bennett, the commanding officer of the 14th was one of Patton's regular pilots.
There is more of the 14th squadron history in the attached document, with photos.
