These pictures are a few of the pictures that I was able to find in a much larger collection of WW1 and WW2 pictures that belonged to my great-grandfather and grandfather who were in the Army Air Force. The first two are from 1944, but the others had no dates listed so I do not know exactly when or where they were taken. The last group of pictures are postcards.

Below:
1) On Back: Fontaine Bleu, France, 18 Aug 44
2) On Back: Sept 9 Pilot's *
* I am not certain of what it says next as the ink is worn slightly off but "18th* (GI's) I Solo" is what it appears to be to me
3-8 ) Part of an unlabeled set
9-14) Part of an unlabeled set
15-23) Postcards
24) Unlabeled

Very cool photos! Could be first time he 'solo'ed' as captain on a mission?

Hi Ethos,

The B-29 flight line and in flight pictures have the unique large and bold double digit numbers of the Alamogordo AAFld, a Second AF B-29 replacement crew training base. The C-46 and B-25 are probably transit aircraft at the same base.

The black belly B-29s look worn and has the straight propellers of a Pacific veteran, retuned for training duties. The others have the cuff propellers of typical of stateside B-29 units. Thus I would place the time frame for these pictures after V-E day.

Do you know if your grandfather was retaining on B-29s after his tour in Europe for deployment to the Pacific?

Too bad about the light leak on these photos, I would love to have seen a good photo of the flight line in photo 503-24.

All the best to you,

Tom Michel
