And on Makin Island, the Army Air Force also had P-39's, some of which were painted pink. Alas, none of the pilots seem to have resembled Barbie.

Apparently they were very concerned about the Japanese spotting activity on Makin Island and coral pink was the best camo color for that airfield.

Martin Baltimore at Bolling Field. The RAF seems to have like the airplane quite well. Probably much better than a Blenheim.

Great photo of an aircraft you never hear much about, like so many others - Maryland, Hampden, Albermarle, Hereford and many more I cannot think of off the top of my head.

I don't like those underwing bomb racks though - obviously designed in-house to match the requirements of the standard RAF bomb racks but with far more drag built into them. A pylon with the standard Brit rack would have been far cleaner. This one carries everything from 8 1/2lb to 500lb bombs - the fusing units can be detached as well as be moved from the full extended position shown to hard up against the bomb crutches (anti sway braces).

Are those gun barrels in the wing inboard of the landing light?
