I remember something about hoods worn by night aircrew to help 'adjust' early for night vision but that
time of the day looks very early.
 
Thing is, if it's only just a hood for instrument flying, why all the gubbings on his back that would almost certainly interfere with his sitting in a cockpit seat. :D
