I would think a steel pot on a winter ride would accelerate hypothermia. Some of the Beemers had heat risers for hands. The pipes ducted ambient air through the exhaust pipes-right after the exhaust valves up to the hands. I do know how effective it was but it was something. No bark buster or hippo-hands would make it even harder. Also, the boxer engine is lovely as a little radiant heat oozes back over your feet.

IMHO-the boxer engine is much better for war than the US or British twins.
