Are you sure about Ranger ?
Squadron VGF 29 is reported on USS Santee (CVE 29) from october 42 to june 1943, before being redesignated VF-29 on same carrier on august 1943 up to december 1943.
On october 1944, it was then assigned to USS Cabot (CVL 28), flying F6F5.
USS Ranger fighter squadron was VF-9 for Torch with 9-F marking
The picture must pre date october 1942 as the roundel does not have the typical operation Torch yellow surrounding.

If I may .. the pic with the P-40s like a couple of others are dated in the January/February 1943 though. And indeed the P-40s didn't have the yellow outlines around the US Stars. Contrary to that the colour image with the F4Fs on the deck of the USS Ranger is date on the Autumn 1942. The code is 9F as it was mentioned above. However also no the yellow ring around the US Star. The carshed F4F of the squadron on the USS Ranger deck is dated on the 25 August 1942. Also no outlined marking. But in October and the November the VF-9 F4Fs appear to already have the fuselage US national marking with the yellow outline.
