The old Mad Magazine was produced by EC Comics before Bill Gaines took over. See if you can find "Superduperman" or "Melvin of the Jungle" online. I don't remember the title used for the Blackhawks parody. If you can find a complete issue you can see why the grown ups went ballistic over it. The old issues were a bit more disturbing.
