Heard something else interesting.

In 2019 the Govt of Mexico decided they needed lots more trees so they started a tree planting program and offered to pay people to take care of them.

They burned through $3B very quickly but the program did not pay for maintaining existing trees.

So poor people began cutting down the existing trees so they could be replaced with newly planted trees that they were paid to maintain.

The net result was that 280 square miles were deforested as the result of a program to add more trees.
I cringe every time a politician announces a new multi-million dollar program with the words "if it changes one life it will be worth it."
BTW, I live in Minnesota, the Land of Ten Thousand Frauds.

I recall that back in the late 60's the Democrats advocated a substantial increase in welfare payments by paying people to do govt-created jobs.

When asked where the money would come from they replied that those people would be paying taxes.....

A perfect example of the law of unintended consequences. I will have to remember it.

The idea of adding alcohol to gasoline was designed to draw CO2 from the atmosphere by growing crops to create alcohol as well as add to fuel supplies.

Then someone did the math. Most of the alcohol would come from growing corn. That would drive up the price of corn, worldwide. People in various countries, including the 3rd world would respond by growing more corn. That would require more land be cleared of natural vegetation, which would reduce CO2 absorption. But eventually you reach a point where you are no longer offsetting the effects of clearing natural vegetation and actually begin having a net negative impact on atmospheric CO2 levels.

And that point is 400 years.

Switch-grass would be a better source of energy than corn. Less intensive methods to grow it. The Corn lobby has a vested interest in preventing "grassohol" from happening. I have no documentation so I expect a taunting. I just thought of grassohol and wanted to use it.
Duuuuude! Did you say grassahol?
Like, wow, man. I gotta try that.

Grassohol may well be like the e10 ethanol alcohol laced fuel available here - great for short low speed trips but at highway speeds results in a significant increase in fuel consumption and results in a significantly greater fuel cost per kilometre/mile.

There was a trial done by a large Aus motoring magazine some 6-8 years back three brand new cars, all same make and model and submodel. One used standard unleaded, one e10 and one e85 (85% ethanol). The regular fuel car had the lowest consumption, the e10 significantly higher and the e85 fuel consumption was off the planet.
