A book on the history of electronic warfare (written by an Englishman) mentioned that the RAF required voice radios in single seat planes. All others had wireless telegraphy. there were so many different accents around Britain, that radio messages were getting confusing.Just a variation on the theme of miscommunication dating back over 100 years in the military. "Send three and fourpence we are going to a dance" was one I heard as a kid a long, long time back.
