Murata's bird is a good choice being the Overall torpedo Strike Commander and first to hit a target on Battleship row, Command stripes add some colour...!
But choice is yours...

Caution- I used the gloss as prep for decals and it didn't flow well out of the air brush. I kept thinning and it never got better. It produced a terrible orange peel finish. I think it is just for brushing.

I use the Vallejo Matt varnish for my flats without issue. About 12-15 psi 50-50 with their thinner.
