I would agree with you on the King Tiger, but make mine the Henschel turret. Who makes these by the way?

There are two main companies Jim, Heng Long (which mine is), and Taigen, both of which have a range of WW2 and modern R/C tanks and other vehicles in 1/16th scale.
There are 'up-date' parts available, to replace the plastic or nylon parts, such as real wire towing hawsers, metal shackles, metal tracks, PE engine grilles and items such as buckets, jerry cans etc etc.
From what I've seen, there are clubs who really 'go to town' on authenticity, and stage tank battles - there's also an infra red add-on system, which stops the 'target' tank if a hit is scored.
My tank will remain more of a working 'show piece', although it's fun to hear the gun and machine gun fire, and the engine start up and run sound system, with the headlights lit. When the main gun fires, the tank recoils, a little brutally in my opinion, but there's also a metal barrel available, with realistic recoil !
Prices in the UK range from around £50 for a basic tank - no sound or smoke - up to around £200 for something like a fully up-graded King Tiger with Henschel turret, metal tracks and sprockets etc, and they're probably cheaper in the USA.

Yep, look on e-bay, and the 'net in general. There are a number of specialist R/C tank outlets in the UK offering good prices, and I'm sure it's the same in the USA.
Another brand I've just discovered is 'Torro', but their models appear to be rather 'up market', some with metal hulls, and very nice, but priced accordingly, And, of course, Tamiya have a couple in their catalogue, but at Tamiya prices !!

Terry, so as not to upset the Financial Dept. I was compelled to go turretless. Jagdpanther, metal tracks and all, reporting for duty!

I'm afraid I will have to leave the defence of the Forumland to your Jagdpanther - my Tiger is about to undergo some work to make it resemble an early model, refurbished to mid-production standard, Normandy, 1944.
Once again, I seem to have chosen something which might require a little more work than originally anticipated - but I'm aiming to keep the modifications relatively simple, and nowhere near as authentically detailed as some I've seen !
I'm planning on doing a little touring in the 'Tin Tent' later this week, and as it's a bit risky to take an aircraft model with me, for fear of damage, I'm taking the Tiger, to keep me occupied if (read 'When'!) it rains.

It's certainly a big baby Glenn, and quite heavy too !
Just about getting the hang of 'driving' it at a scale speed, and looking forward to getting it modified, adding 'zimmerit', and painting it.
I actually wanted a large, static model, for display, but as this R/C version was just as good, and only a few Pounds more, it just had to be done !

Just received a pack of 'zimmerit' for the Tiger.
I was going to use 'Milliput' or 'Magic Sculpt', and create my own coating, in a scaled down version of the real thing, but I realised it would take bl**dy ages to do, so got this stuff instead.
It's a sort of flexible rubbery stuff, pre - cut to shape for turret and hull, and embossed with the correct pattern for the Tiger 1, and is attached with epoxy adhesive. It'll need trimming and adjusting here and there, and some 'Milliput' will be needed to fill-in any gaps or joints, but once fitted and painted, it should look the biz.
I'll post some pics of the work on the modifications when I get back from roaming, given I get some work done on the tank that is !

Same here Andy, but I guess I'll be partly un-building this one, in order to add some of the other modifications, such as the later commander's cupola.
That is some cool stuff. I thought i read somewhere that Zimmerit was a waste of time because the Soviets never developed magnetic anti-tank mines. A defense tailored to a non-existant attack? Is this true?

For what I understand, the Germans were the only ones with magnetic mines for armoured vehicles....I think!
