Russian Fighters

However this "big guns" had a poor rate of fire and lack of ammunition. Russian philosophy was lighten the aircraft, but i guess if mostly of the Russian pilots can deal with such things.

That's true, Ernst, but part of the philosophy was to use your maneuverability from your lightened plane to get close enough to the enemy to where you were sure to score some hits, without using too much ammo. And it didn't take too many hits from a 20mm and especially a 37mm cannon to bring down an airplane. Again, just a different philosophy from Western tactics. This philosophy was continued into the postwar era, with piston-engined aircraft like the La-9 and La-11, with their 23mm's on the nose, and the MiG's with their 23mm's and 37mm's again mounted on the nose (or 30mm's in the case of the MiG-19 mounted on the nose and wingroots).

Hey Timpa, nice charts. Where did you got them? Are they from Russian reports? It likes FW 190 D-9 were plotted with maximum engine output without use of MW-50

Hey Timpa, nice charts.
Very nice, yes...

Where did you got them?
From "Samoliotostroïeniyé", the TsAGI book, Jookovski editions. That's the limit (for T and others) to send datas even without knowing where there a taken from. In that case, a copiright (c) should be mentionned...

Are they from Russian reports?
Yes, they are. Soviets used a full half squadron of captured Doras.

It's seems so. Other indicators from the book, page 95:

631 km/h at 6150 m
(642 km/h at 6100 m) "forced" rating

Mentions of power at rated alt:
1480 hp
(1600 hp combat rating)

Thanks for the data. Does the book state the condition of the aircraft (fair, serviceable, very good...)

Not this book, but it's a well known fact that there were brand new captured on the factory parking. Don't have Medvedev's book about the FW fighters with me, so don't remember where in germany...

... Well I cant read Russian and am not familiar enough to tell what is what.

Don't worry about not being able to read it. If you can post it there are some of us that can translate it for everyone else. My wife is Russian and I can read it although I may not understand all of it. :)

La-7 data:
Hello! What is the source of data? And do you have any data on La-9 performance. Thank you.
