In my castle....

My 2 Personal hero's growing up.
Mark Donohue who won in everything he drove, from go karts to Formula 1, and for NASCAR it was Joe Weatherly

The only driver to win a championship driving for multiple teams in the same year. His primary team reduced their entries to just the major events due to sponsorship and finance issues, so he begged and borrowed cars for the remaining events

had to ad my hero growing up Mark Donohue. He seemed to win in every type of racing he entered

It's a +1 for Mark Donohue; one of the greatest. His book is also a firm favourite.

My all-time top five would include Stirling Moss, Tazio Nuvolari and Vic Elford but Mark would come close. Not sure who else would make it into the top 5 though. Too many supposed "greatest" didn't do much outside of one particular discipline, and there's too much focus on Formula 1 as if it is somehow the pinnacle of motorsport without question.

Lake Speed, another personal hero that I actually had a chance to interact with in the pits in former lifetime in both of his major race series. He won the international Carting Championship the 1st American driver to do so, and in a long NASCAR carrier he posted only 1 win (that I was lucky enough to witness from the pits) And a great guy, even if he did repeatedly try to save my soul. Maybe not the greatest driver of all time, but when I would get cocky he would teach me how much better he was behind the wheel than I was by swapping go Karts with me and beating me in my much slower machine! Plus could you have a better name as a race driver? Plus his name is the tread title!
