Here are a few photos of a Spitfire Mk9 that I took at the 2006 Willow Run Airshow in Ypsilanti MI USA.... Next to the P-51D - my most most favorite aircraft of all time.

I don't know why, but for me early marks of Spitfire (especially Mk II) looked much more nicer and more graceful then the later marks. I don't like the looks of enlarged and pointed out tail surfaces and shape of the nose with Griffon engine. Of course I'm talking just from aesthetic point of view and I am fully aware of higher performace of later marks.

But still... one way or the other Spitfire was beautiful airplane and these pictures are excellent too. Thanks for posting!
