Tamiya 1:48 Bf109G-6

This kit had been sitting in my stash for ages. Recently I started working on Eduard's Bf 109G-10, and figured, why not build this one alongside it? At least I could save some time mixing the paint colors.

At first, I always felt that Tamiya's 1/48 aircraft kits usually lacked exterior details, and without a bunch of aftermarket work it was hard to meet the standards of today's model critics. But once I actually started building it, I realized this is the kind of kit that's made purely to please the builder. So I decided to keep it OoB — no modifications, no aftermarket parts, just enjoying the pure satisfaction of Tamiya's engineering.

Very nice work. I respect the engineering but am not a fan of the gimmicky removable cowl. I prefer to pose one or the other with a fully detailed engine if open. Similar issue with their He162.

Thank you! I guess their was intend to let modellers with all level of skills, including young kids can somehow make and understanding the engine.

Although I try to get a little modeling done every day, work has been keeping me pretty busy lately. Today is the Dragon Boat Festival holiday, and I finally had some time to sit down and document what I've been working on recently.

I've been spending more time studying period photos and trying a few things that are a bit different from my usual approach. I've written more detailed notes directly on the photos to make them easier to read.

I checked it, very interesting product. Usually the rubber color is just matte black with a little grey tone.

Very nice. If you are interested in propeller wear on the 109s, it was very common that the backs of the metal blades were worn to the base metal toward the tips. Like so:
