THE SAAB 17

This thread is just a short information hread of the Swedish
dive bomber, the Saab b-17. Just the base techical information

Engine:1 x SFA Twin Wasp( license build engine on the blueprint of P&W Twin Wasp)

Engine power: 1,064 Horse power

Aircraft Lenght: 9,80 m/32 Feet

Aircraft Wingspan: 13,70 m/44 Feet

Aircraft Height: 4,00 m /12 Feet (Radio stack not included)

Empty Weight: 2 600 Kilograms/ 5 200 lbs

Maximum Take off Weight: 3 790 kilograms/8 355 lbs

Preformance

Top speed: 435 kmh /270,3 mph

Maximum range: 1 800 km / 1118 miles

maximum alttitude:8 700 meters/ 26,247 Feet

Climb rate: 10 mps / 30 fps

Armament: 3 x 8 mm machine gun( 2 x forward mounted, 1 x rear mounted

Up to 500 kilograms / 1 000 lbs off bombs​
 
That'll be this puppy then....

Very impressive bit of kit...drop the undercart and tip over into a steep dive !. A novel solution indeed.

Yeah, thats the puppy.

if i´m not wrong, the Saab 17 could get to 75 - 80 degress down

you are right to 50 %

yes, the engine was whitout license

no, the saab 17 was equiped with swedish made headers
that had a increase angle on the valves that gave the plane a slightly lower
rev. celling, but increased the climbing rate from 9 mps / 27 fps to 10 mps / 30 fps
 
I married into the Esto Tribe - your cousins, Timppa .

Conrad - like so much good Swedish engineering, that dive bomber is really ingenious. Rugged like a Stuka (without the spats to clog up with Russian mud) and streamlined when flying to and from target. Very impressive.

the only sad thing about the saab 17 is that during the time period the "market" was overflooded whit larger plane makers.
 
I think the comparison with the Spit isn't quite appropriate .... considering the two were developed in different eras - but I like the Saab, and I would just like to see some pictures of it operating with the Swedish Airforce.
