I moved here in 1993 and can only recall one incident prior to 2017 that caused smoke in the city. Now it's an expected part of our summers and will be so until all of the trees have been destroyed. Very sad.

Agreed - I cycle a lot .... we lost 4 weeks of racing last summer to awful air quality from fires. this year, we've lost one week, but even now, I can smell smoke in my house. Supposedly, the current smoke clouds are coming up from Montana, but there are 400 active fires in AB right now. As Crimea River pointed out, it absolutely dd not used to be an issue. Sigh........

The forecast for the last few days has been rain every day - usually up to 10mm - and we have received a total of 0.2mm.

This is the latest prediction from BoM. Note how close tolerance this forecast is.

A neighbour who loves to joke claims that the government has put out a order banning all rainfall in non government electorates so we will get none.

I guess we will find out which is more accurate - BoM or the joking friend

Sorry Vic but the 0-1mm predicted yesterday turned into 5mm for us and 8mm for the neighbour on the other side of the ridge.

Our predicted 10-70 resulted in 38mm so our house tanks are full. Normally we are starting to tanker water late Aug/early Sept so this is wonderful.
There is water flowing into the dam in August for the first time since we moved here in 2011 which is fantastic.
Todays forecast has changed from 10-80mm so I am hopeful we will get a full dam in August for the first time. Normally that is in late Jan/early Feb IF it happens at all.
The flood watch extends 200km north and 350km south of us so it is what you might call extensive. We are 28m above the nearest creek so are not worried.

Yep, same here and Saturday's thunderstorms put a carpet of snow on Mt. Shasta.

The word on the street is rain by Thursday with low, Fall-like temps.

Then the heat returns next week.

I've seen Mt. Hood, Raineer and even St. Helens (before and after the eruption) and Shasta still beats them hands down.

I'm an Oregonian born and raised. I fully agree, Rainer, Adams, St Helens,( and she was a very pretty cone before) Hood, none compare to Shasta. Especially from the lake.
