Been in deep early chilly fall on the B C side of the border. Aspens have mostly droppped leaves, and the Larches are turning. Still smoke in the air, but not too bad. Our big local fire is officially declared out. The drought continues, but some light rain today and a couple of inches of snow scheduled for this week...

These fires were well west of me but a car burnt about a year ago near us when a townie stopped to make a phone call with the car parked on grass beside the highway. The grass was about 25cm high. The car was a total write off as it was about 30km from the nearest volunteer fire crew. This year the grass is too short in this area as farmers are using the verges to try and keep cattle alive. Mt Isa is about 1200 km northwest of us.

Oh my, looks like it is going to be a tad crisp come Wednesday.

Lots of smoke and winds forecast at 45kmh (about 27mph) so not good. Bringing in more water just in case as we live between Bundaberg and Tara.

Firies are exhausted and a lot of the volunteers have quit in Qld because of a law bought in by the state government that is supposed to prevent children being molested. The latest school teacher to be caught does have a "blue card" and has been charged with over 1600 offences which shows how useless this new requirement is.
