Next up: The top Offensive fighters..

What about the Bearcat? Designed as a fast climbing interceptor, it had great potential as a fleet defense aircraft.

Spitfire...nice fighter. One of the best.

Too short range, to be useful.

I would prefer the P51D Mustang.

"Bad luck", that the Do335 "Ameisenbär" or "Pfeil" didn't get on duty.

If the TA152 is included then I suggest that the Spit 14 should be changed for the Spit 21. Its max speed was 454mph, its better armed with 4 x 20 and had redesigned control surfaces which significantly improved control response at high speed. Also 120 were in service which is considerably more than the TA 152.

All in all a worthy contender, often overlooked.

Ähmmmm....

YES!

You are right!

"Wer lesen kann ist im Vorteil"

OK, in this case, the Spitfire is one of the three best once.

But perhaps in this case you should not forget this one.

Bad luck for who???

Bad luck for the germans.
Good luck for the B17 and B24 crews.

It was a "nice" destroyer/fighter.
And it would be a nice interceptor.

DO 335 B2:
You need 5x 3 cm hits or 20x 20 mm hits to shoot down a B17 or a B24.
This destroyer is 60 km faster than a P51 D.

The Do 335B was also to get the new MK112 5.5 cannon it fired 300 rounds min. gun weight 605ponds for improved model Muzzle velocity 1'950 feet/second.

Yes; put a couple of Mk 103 gun pods under the wings and you have a devastating bomberzerstorer.

And the two-seater would've been an awesome nachtzerstorer, undoubtedly better than the P-61.

Does anyboy know if the Pfeil was slated to get the superlative Mauser MG 213 20mm cannon, which was still under development at War's end?

The extra 2x MK103 of the B2 version were integrated into the wings.
3x MK103 and 2x MK151/20 are more than enough.
Extra MK103 in pods under the wing would only slow down the Pfeil.

As the A4M rocket has the same flight ballistics as the MK103, I would equip the DO 335 B2 with these one.

And now the question:
100 He 162 "Salamander" and 50 DO 335 B2 equiped with A4M rockets attack 100 B17 protected by 100 P51D over Germany, far away from there homebases in Great Britain.
How many P51D would come back?
5? 10? perhaps 15?
And how many B17?
2 or 3 or just noone?

>>>>>>>>>>
The two seat night fighter versions have had a loss of 10% of there capacity.

Good question...
I just read, that Mauser developed out of this the BK27, which is in use in the Eurofighter and Raptor.

-> Not the Raptor...
The F35 Lightning II.
