English spelling is very consistent. You know I before E except after C or in any word like Height or Weight or .....

In school we had to do a book review on a book of proper English - I thought the author was George Bernard Shaw but I cannot find it in his listed works.

The author gave many examples of PROPER English spelling and the one I always liked best was fish, in proper English spelling, is ghot

  • GH is the F sound in many words like enough
  • O is the I sound in words like women
  • T is the SH sound in words like station.

Therefore either I (or O from the example above) for the first letter of Inshitification is perfectly correct.

If "ineffective" means not able to produce positive results, and "incommunicado" means unable to communicate, why does "inflammable" mean particularly volatile?

There's a lot AI ads using digital homunculi. Computer code telling us "their" "relatives" love a product. Non existing healthcare providers extolling the virtues of their eSnakeoil. I'd love to see disclaimers on these ads. Similar to "actor portrayal" on TV ads.

Agree with the concept - here in Aus we do not even get the "actor portrayal" on TV ads.

Not really: the "sh" in station is more due to the use of t and i. So 'fish' should really be "ghoti".

Meanwhile AI needs a better meaning; I do like the sentiment of "inshitification" but as Thumpalumpacus rightly points out, it really needs to begin with the letter e. We need to come up with something that aptly describes our total disgust and anger at what it means. Sadly 'excrement' also doesn't begin with an i.

Let us keep inshitification until someone comes up with something better and put the spelling down to different rules in different countries (and sometime even differences within the same country) like through and thru are different spellings for the same word or like new and nu are different pronunciations of the same word.

Or threw.

Spent nearly 4 hours clearing an thick nasty ice dam off the roof of the house yesterday afternoon. Got plenty of exercise going up/down a ladder, shoveling snow, and swinging a large rubber mallet to break ice. Got even more exercise all night long tossing and turning from every muscle in my body from the neck down aching. At lease I don't have a headache.

New appliances(meaning the last 25 years old) suck. The switch in the refrigerator door that controls the light broke and since the fridge is 20 years old the part is unavailable so I either have to reach around in the dark to get food or replace an otherwise working fridge because of a stupid plastic part that should cost $10. Same thing happened a few years ago with the stove. Nice high-end GE oven. The mother board went out, and no replacement was available so it went out in the trash.
Through a number of circumstances I have 3 washers and dryers in my basement.
2 less than 20 years old and the third an old Maytag from the early 70s that was given to me when I moved into my first house. Guess which one I have never had to call a repair man for?

Jonathan Winters hates your guts.

Same with refrigerators - we have a 40 year old one that we use for drinks. Put new seals on about 5 years ago. Leaks a little as the lower hinge is badly worn. Thrown out three others since. The current one is only 2 years old and works great so far.
