Believe it or not, today I am going to try some degaussing.

On my most recent flight in my airplane I noted the magnetic compass was not doing much of anything. It was indicating magnetic headings that were very wrong.

I have seen that before and solved it, more or less, by relocating the compass to lower on the instrument panel. Well, the problem is back and I suspect that my recent use of a magnetic flashlight on the steel frame for the windshield magnetized that structure.

Years ago, more than 25, I think, I tried demagnitizing the frame by hooking up wire and a Variac. I got the frame humming nicely at 60 HZ, so I probably was doing something. Some time later I tried again and only succeeded in nearly melting the wire.

So I am going to try to use a Variac AND a 6V transformer and see how that works.
 
An old school degaussing ring used for the old black & White TVs should work, if you can find an old fart electronics nut. On occasion, I would get shocked working on equipment and the old windup watches would run fast. The degaussing ring cured that.

I thought about those, although I don't know if I have ever seen one. What I did was wind wire rated at 10 plus amps around the center support and dialed in power. When it got to about 90VAC input the wire was warm and the structure was humming. I turned it down to 60VAC for a while and then back up to 100 and even to 120VAC briefly. That transformer was quite hot when I was done. I was tempted to hook the degaussing wire direct to the Variac but did not like the idea of using a dead short. Voltage on the wire probably did not exceed 9VAC at the most. We will see.

Just watched a video about recent (2 weeks old, by now) stabbing of a man and his dog by terorists, in the U.S.. Good news, for me, was that terorist was neuralized by Police forces.

May terorist's name be cursed and his soul forever tormented. I wish he never finds peace, even in the judgement day.
