Whenever I watch Star Wars, I watch the originals and maybe the following three!
The same goes Star Trek, I watch Voyager, or TNG, NEVER any of the last bunch....
I suffered through the first two episodes of Discovery(?) and I was thinking to myself this is utter shite!

I haven't seen any 'new' Star Trek things (mostly just the original series), but heard a work colleague ranting about how the Klingons are now gay and wearing skirts(???)

The first Star Wars movie has ALWAYS been "Episode IV".
After STAR WARS blazes on the screen, it's the first thing you see in that rolling script sequence at the beginning of the movie.

Was it always? I saw it at the pictures when it came out, and many times after, and (IIRC...) it just said 'Star Wars'. I read once they added the 'Pt.IV' after The Empire Strikes Back was made, that being Pt.V.

Yeah. I first saw it at the theatre about a week after it came out, because I remember thinking, "Episode 4? Why are we starting in the middle of the story? Shouldn't this be Episode I?"
In my defense, I was 13 at the time.

You know what did change was that initial sequence, where the two spaceships fly ovwe the camera at the very beginning of the movie. It was originally a lot longer. They shgortened it several years ago. I think it had something to do with fitting better into typical time slots for television.

I saw Star Wars when first came out over 25 times in the 70(?) mm format. I didn't count the times I saw it at 35mm theaters. I dragged all my girlfriends (separately of course) as well as my folks to see it. I was able to quote the Jawas. It was not episode 4 when first released in 1977(?).
