What made me sad today...

There was an eye witness to the above accident.....

So I made it to my LHS about an hour away and it changed hands/mgmt nobody from the last 20+ years!and to boot the military model section already small went from 24' down to 12'.I will not be going back needless to say at the cash register I made the comment "the plastic section continues to get smaller" the mgr did not offer a single quip?I know what that means it's going to get smaller and go away. The paints was thinning out also order online or go to New orleans just an extra hour total drive time they are old school and started in 1952

Sucks but seem to be the way things are going, Kev. What I loosely call a hobby shop has half an 8ft section for models and I have more 1:48 aircraft kits than they do

In the MSP metro there are several hobby shops. Michael's and Hobby Lobby are craft stores with meager offerings for military models. Hub Hobby (two locations - northeast metro, southwest metro) carries a larger selection, but the gundam and 40k is crowding the historical plastic out. Scale Model Supply in Saint Paul is a modeller's Mecca with a broad range of new and pre-owned kits. Because they buy collections the inventory is always offering up interesting subjects.

Yeah Geo I have more kits in my collection X 3 maybe 4 for what they had on the shelf and as to what Greg mentioned probably 20'+ and 7' tall jammed.
I started modelling at Hub Hobby in 1953. I watched them grow steadily, expanding shop area until they had the whole corner, as well as upstairs. Then came Hurricane Katrina, August 2005. That part of the city stayed flooded for two weeks. The original brothers who founded the store, as an appliance repair business, added plastics and HO trains in around 1952. The standing water, plus the humidity upstairs, ruined the decals in sealed boxes. One of our controlline club members salvaged most of the ruined balsa, and was actually able to use some of it. The remains of the shop was removed to the present site and as one of the brothers had passed away, the store was passed to a nephew who was a plastic modeller and restocked plastics slowly. The biggest hit in the past decade, was the high cost of balsa. With R/C going to ARF, the Chinese buying the balsa forests and the engineering department students at Tulane going computer models instead of physical wooden, plastistruct, and wire, along with mail orders, the profit margin has gone away. My purchases in the last two years are used books which they sell for the families of customers who have passed away.

Ed the last time I was there was maybe 4/5 years ago and they had a good selection of paints and kits of all types is that still the case?
