Friend of mine recommended 1:72 biplanes use brass wire or brass tubing shaped to fit. I have never done that but his results are remarkable.

I think it has something to do with aileron control.

These aren't park benches but the aileron compensating wings. In other words these were the mass-balance for the control surfaces. Actually these in the model are attached incorrectly and should have been stuck to the ailerons but not to the wings.
