The CR42 I have very little experience especially now since I'm almost in Tier 4 for the German tree. However I believe it more or less has to do with the rate of fire. I've noticed even in my Mc202 that the .50's don't punch as hard as the US planes. And as for the German 7.62's, those fire at an incredibly faster rate so it may just come down to how much lead is being thrown in a short period of time.

Just a random update, I'm about 2/3 of the way to my P-51D5 but the grind is incredibly brutal. Also about halfway to the Spit MkIX which again is a tough grind. Can't wait to have both of those planes in my arsenal so I can unleash them in FRB and Realistic.

I'm glad to hear your researching each country all together. I've never understood why some players stay with one country throughout and never research any other countries. Baffles me because I actually enjoy a variety of planes from different nations lol. I love flying my US P-40, P47 and soon the P-51, but I also love flying the Bf109 F-4 and Fw190. The Spitfire and the A6M series are a blast and the Russians can be fun (but that's the one country I'm not very good with!) Each of those planes listed bring different flying properties and fighting styles to the table and THAT makes the game fun.

about 20K research points away from a P51.....Ugh it's so damn hard!

I just had a game where I shot down 13 planes (Arcade Battle) and got 1700 RP...seriously?!?! Then I go into a RB game with my P-47 and get 13 ground kills and 2 air kills and walk away with 3400 RP. That's not enough! lol
 
After yesterday only 10K research left for that beautiful P51-D5!

I'm giddy with excitement since it's only about a days worth of good play away!
 
I'm supprised you have trouble with the Russian line. Most people complain that the planes are overpowered in the early to mid tiers (they have canons before other nations IIRC). Plus...I-16 type 18 and the premium type 28 are great for laughs and trolling.
 

I LOVE the I-153...however because I mainly play RB the low tier cannons don't do much since its usually 1x 20mm with low ammo and only 1x .50 cal mg to support it. Basically you need to hit dead on in order to take anyone down in RB with that. Just not my style really.

Also as an update I'm close to getting the P-51...now only a mere 2500 RP away! Should have it tomorrow morning hopefully. Also this morning I had an absolutely dominating game in RB. I took out my P47-D25 and loaded it with 2x 1000lb bombs, 1x 500 lb'r and 10x rockets. I went out and in ONE match in RB I destroyed 48 ground targets and 1 air kill assist. Topped the leader board for the team and we won the match. Total RP with the 2x first win bonus was a little over 6000 RP! Also the impressive thing about it was I never had to go back to base to rearm or refuel. I took out Pillboxes with the bombs and then target light pill boxes with the rockets followed by artillery and AAA with the mg's. Easily one of the best matches I've had in the P47.

Viking if you give it an honest try in ALL game formats its a very fun game. Stressful at times but definitely fun. Like I've stated here I mainly play in RB which has a perfect blend of arcade and realistic. The planes function closer to the actual flight models but the battle is much more built on pilot skill. In RB there is no in air reloading or refueling, also the damage you receive is much less forgiving. IE: if you receive engine damage your planes engine would eventually die on you. Same goes with your control surfaces, you don't want those shot out at all.

YAYYY for you! I'm a little more than half-way through my leveling to get the MiG-3-15 (BK). I'm enjoying the normal MiG-3 in close-in, high-altitude fights...but man does it lack down low. Also, the Bf-110 just wrecks anything that gets in front of it!
 
zoomar...just as here. I am fairly low tier for most nationalities (highest in USSR - La-5, lowest in Germany - He 112v5 and US - P-36). I really like how flexible WT is and the graphics are outstanding. I've played all the Il-2 simulations and I'd consider the full real/historic variant of WT pretty close to stock Il2 1946 with respect to flight and damage models. My main gameplay complaint is the time it takes for full real/historic servers to open up. As a result I play in arcade more than I'd like (actually in its own wierd way I find arcade harder than historic/realism: Too many crazies, crazy furballs, so forth)
