The wing and tail surfaces are really quite large and the torque on the engine would have required quite a bit of rudder on lift-off.

XF8 wingspan 54' and 13,500lbs empty. P-51 wingspan 43' and 7,600lbs.

I would say that is quite significant for a single engine "fighter/bomber".

Quick update

Finally got around to painting the interior, so hopefully I will be able to get the fuselage glued together and make some progress.
Photo etched rudder pedals were a bit fiddly, kept thinking I would break or drop them can't wait to play with the seat harness
started cleaning up the engine cowling, removed the excess casting resin and opened up the front of the cowling.
