The kit is an old Hasegawa mould with amazing external detail but sorely lacking in cockpit detail. The cockpit sidewalls are not provided and hollow wing roots were just begging to be covered with detailing. After that, the assemblies were quite straightforward. The canopy masking was the usual problem for WW2 IJA/IJN subjects.

This build was to represent the Ki-45 (71st Dokuritsu Hiko Chutai) aircraft that were abandoned in Kallang airfield, during the liberation of Singapore, circa 1945. The color scheme was mottled Mitsubishi Dark Green on a IJN Grey Green base. The chipping/flaking effect was achieved with an aluminium color base and rubber cement dabbed sparingly along panel lines and corners. Weathering was done using Tamiya Enamel Panel Line Accent Colors and Mr Hobby Weathering Pastels. Decals used were from the kit for the Hinomaru roundels and some custom cut from white decal paper for the squadron tail marking.

Added details as follows;
> Extended nose cone for the upgraded cannon;
> Cockpit side walls for pilot and rear gunner;
> Aerial wire antenna using a .15mm fishing line;

Quite a straightforward kit to build which is highly recommended for WW2 aircraft modellers.

The camo and particularly the weathering on the underside looks just perfect. Very nicely done. :)
