Er....
Scoring from set pieces is still a valid goal. Amazed how many people say this like it's a bad thing. Unless FIFA have changed the rules without my knowledge, it's still classed as a goal.
A wins a win. If boring and set pieces goals get to the Semi final then that's called mission accomplished.
Ex-paratrooper? That give knowledge of the future? Eh?
Another strange point made is that England deliberately lost against Belgium to gain an easier draw. Which to me is good tactics as makes sense and it ain't cheating as it's playing the rules. Belgium also deliberately played a weaker side so they didn't set out to win either.

Britain played a solid game to beat Sweden. In previous WCs I think the Brits had lots of very good players that couldnt play as a team. thanks to this new coach of theirs, they are finally playing like a team in my opinion. ironic, because this is not the strongest team they have fielded in recent times

I think it will be close with Croatia, but the Croats have used some of their nine lives in previous games, especially the shoot outs, so it could just go England's way

I am sick of hearing Irish and Scots commentators who obviously want England to lose, cant imagine any other nation in the world that has this.

I've been working in Ireland for the last few days. I watched the England match against Sweden on RTE. I didn't find the commentators unduly biased and the Irish people I've interacted with have not been willing England to lose, most are fairly and reasonably neutral, just enjoying the football, and a few actually thought it would be good if England carried on and won the tournament. They may just have been polite!

The Scots are another matter. My English and Canadian colleagues and our local Irish friends all agreed that for England to actually win the World Cup would be most Scots' worst nightmare; far worse than losing an independence referendum. Our one Scottish colleague managed to find an Argentina shirt (why? what relevance?) for the game. The Scots would probably declare a day of national mourning...or drinking in the event of an England World Cup win :)

Cheers

Steve

I am talking about the media in England. This morning on Talksport Ian Glendenning (Irish) said "My problem watching England is I don't want them to win". They have numerous other Scots who make similar comments.

Argentina has a strange place is the Scottish nationalist heart. Because of the Falklands War, the Argentine is victim of English imperialism. The fact that the military junta in charge of Argentina would have treated said nationalist to a free helicopter ride and how to skydive without a parachute is neither here nor there.
Wishing England to lose is a huge sign of weakness in my book. I normally don't give two monkeys about football but I am supporting Engalnd all the way for the reasons that it annoys.

That's not the only way you annoy...:D

I have to say I'm really enjoying this WC and almost glad the US didn't make it. Think they would of been handed their butts to them in the first round which means i get to watch the games with quasi impartiality. Tended to root for teams that I have blood in me(Germany,Poland and France). At least France is still in it. Hope Russia loses, don't think they belong in this round
Actually in recent years US soccer has come on leaps and bounds. And with many Americans now playing in England and Europe for top league sides they certainly aren't the butt of too many jokes these days. One of my biggest regrets is England not making it to World cup US '94' i was more than a little gutted. Admittedly it wasnt the greatest world cup by a long shot but now America has won the bid to host the 2026 WC finals, along with Canada + Mexico (Which is a little odd) but at least now i might get the chance to watch a world cup game in the states, something i have always wanted to experience. Personally i agree about France. In all honesty i think it's their world cup to lose. They are clearly the favourites for the title for sure....

You could not even win against Belgium's B team ;)
Oh right, cos you mean they beat us one nil by playing Englands B team? That game meant nothing so dont put any faith in that game as an indication of what might happen if they do end up playing each other. However, i think your getting a little carried away. There's just the small matter of France to be overcome first, and rather Belgium than England on that one. And after going two nil down to lowly Japan. Im seriously lacking any faith unless Belgium play the game of their lives. Croatia should be respected by England but certainly not feared! I predict England will muller Croatia as they did Sweden. There's just no way they are a better side then us. This England team is young and fearless. And im not getting carried away by suggesting they are more than capable of wining this tournament. Or at the very least getting to the final. I have a feeling a few people around here are going to be eating their words with a big helping of humble pie. As an Englishman im used to the hate and jealousy when it comes to other nations. The fact is none of you can stand how such a small island has contributed and dominated almost every aspect of modern day life for hundreds of years. But i dont blame anyone. If i had been repeatedly beaten and humiliated as many times as France, Spain, Italy and Germany have by English hands i'd feel resentment too. Im dreaming of France v England final. The best two teams left in the competition by a country mile....

Finally, someone who makes sense!

WC games over here in the US are not the same as in Europe for instance. I witnessed 94 in the US, and then 2006 in Germany. Totally different worlds.

It may be because of the vast distances, couples with a vast majority of a population who simply do not care, but it is just not the same.

Humiliated at English hands...

Now I know he is smoking a crack pipe and full of it...

I actually predict a Belgium England final.
Don't rate Croatia that highly and Belgium are on a roll.
But then since England are going to win then they could play Godzilla XI don't matter.
It's coming home.
