Now that the Belt & Road Initiative will no longer be going through Ukraine (as China had originally hoped), they may find Russia useful once sanctions are dropped. But there's no telling when that will come to pass.

I think its worth remembering that the main reason why so Many Russian Generals and senior officers have been killed and wounded, is because the Russian units have not done well and they need to be close to the front to 'help get things moving.
