Harold Strub, right, flew an Air Force rescue plane that picked up B-24 Pilot Loren Corliss, left, and seven other men from a Philippine Island on December 22, 1944. Corliss and his men had been hiding in the jungle for 45 days before Strub flew in and picked them up. Corliss never had a chance to thank Strub on that day, and learned last week, after 65 years, that the both of them have been living in Wichita for decades. The two finally met on Thursday.

I think it's wonderful that the man finally got to meet his rescuer and thank him, too. Awesome!
This is what I really love about my interest in history: The personal, individual stories.
