Anyone who has been in SoCal for any length of time has seen the Condor Squadron at one time or another. Dick Sykes, one of the founders of the Condor Squadron, passed away on August 2. Memorial services will be tomorrow.
I got a call from his son-in-law this morning. I have been asked to take photos of the memorial service. They are putting on quite a last hurrah for him.
The service was beautiful. It was a fitting tribute to one heck of a guy. Dick flew P-38s in WWII out of Europe and was shot down in 1944. He went on to fly P-51s and DC-3s after the war. Aviator, hero, teacher, mechanic, father, grandfather, mentor and a host of other titles were bestowed upon this great man.
