Dog tag of KIA

Hello,

a friend of mine asked me for help in getting the dog tag of his great grandpa who was shot down and KIA on Aug. 29, 1944 over my country. He's doing that for his grandmother, a flier's daughter.
I have a copy of the German KU report and it contains only the dogtags of those who survived the crash and got captured.
Can anyone help me with this research?

Thank you very much. I don't know if this site helps. I got the name, unit, MACR. The basic question is, where in the States are the dog tags of those KIA stored. At NASM?

I do not know of a unit called MACR but the same letters stand for Missing Air Crew Report. These may help

Thank you. I have all the MACRs related to the machines that crashed here on Aug 29, 1944 but none of them icluded dog tags. They were in the German so called "KU reports" (and I have their copies as well) but they only iclude the dog tags of those who survived and were captured. I guess that one tag of those KIA was buried with the body and the other must have been sent to somewhere, maybe to the States via Red Cross? The question is, where are they now...

An excellent question.

If they ended up with JPAC/DPAA I hate to say it but you have almost zero chances of getting a meaningful answer unless you have access to a determined US Federal politician. If any of the deceased are related to a politician that would be the best line of inquiry.

Friends have been trying to get a mid 2000's report (that was definitely prepared on computer and for which at least one printed copy exists but the owner says he is not permitted to allow others to read it) for well over two years. Every three to six months or so they get a new estimated delivery date for the document in a form letter. It would take little more effort than that required to fill in recipient details in the form letter to open the file (the file number is known) and attach it to a reply if it is in PDF form. I can convert any document or graphics file to a PDF in seconds but that may be beyond the DPAA's abilities and they clearly do not give a damn about the FOI act mandating timely closure - twenty working days for this type of inquiry if I read the act correctly.
