Many thanks, gentlemen.
I wish I had taken pictures of this cowling ring before I started on it. I thought it would be a simple back scraping thing to get rid of the molding line. Boy, was I wrong. It sure looked simple, but in practice it took about two hours to get it to this. There was much scraping and sanding, the mold was off by a slight amount, just enough to require some putty in a couple of areas.
Anyways, here is the result.
