Near tears Terry and good eye. Decided I needed an avatar better related to the site so, as a Canadian, Beurling, for me, was the obvious choice. Off to trim....nails could use trimming as well

Yep, and why I've stalled on the 56 Squadron SE5A, and don't dare to look at the Bulldog and Gladiator for the 56 Squadron collection !
It's not so much the rigging, although that's bad enough with the state of my hands these days, but more the fiddly part of fitting upper wings with the rigging, especially between the cabane struts, and the touch-up afterwards !
 
Rigging... that's something that I've never had to deal with. I'll stick with monoplanes for now! Good progress though, Geo... I'm sure it'll look smashing once this fiddly stuff is conquered.
 
Thanks gentlemen. As much as the rigging is a royal pain in the keester, it and a biplane are something I've never done before and I thought it would be a good study for the remaining biplane I have left in the stash; to be built as an RCAF Stearman. The next P.E. piece was the one I thought would give me the most problems as it has to be bent in 4 different spots but it turned out to be the easiest as the two lower wing attachment points almost fit. Minor trimming on this.



That this process is taking way longer than it should is not the fault of the kit. As this is something new, the frustration level is very high so when I make a minor adjustment which doesn't fit, I just walk away for a while instead of hitting it with the flak hammer. Two small P.E. pieces left and the I can proceed to the other wing which should go faster.

I had a heck of a time with the PE cross bracing when I was trying to use it. I am not even in the same league as you on the modeling which is why I went to the piano wire route. Looking great so keep on truckin.

Could be a problem if the other wing goes faster though - the aircraft might fly around in circles .............. I've got me coat, and I'm at the Bus Stop !!
 
rigging, ugh. But yours is looking terrific. I used transparent thread for my Walrus, but the two halves were still separate, still was a royal pain to do, and I dont think would have the right scale effect for this one. Coming up very well. keep at it Geo
 
Terry, Terry, Terry!!!! Thanks guys. Michael, that's exactly the route I'm planning for the Stearman if everything lines up. One of the builds I checked out mentions .008 steel guitar string for the rigging. I'm going to have to check that stuff out.

Thanks Wayne and Dr. Gnomey. Cleaning up the port wing in preparation for the P.E. parts. Initial dry fitting shows a slightly better fit if the struts. Painted the oil cooler.



Hopefully I will have photos of the wing progress unless there is drama involved.
