Nice work Andy.
Don't know if you want to change it, but all of the pics I've seen of the 'Emil' cockpit, both current and period shots, B&W and colour, show the perforated guard over the oxygen system in a dull, bare metal. The 'T' handles also had colour codes, but these were often just small coloured spots on the center of each 'T', and would not be seen in this scale.

Thanks guys. Terry I debated that and frankly could not tell whether the basket was bare metal or a shiny 02. I looked at the above pic and others of the same aircraft and could not tell. To my eye it looks more like 02 and arguably is similar to the radiator louver crank which looks painted.
At any rate its too late now as I was on a roll last night and glued everything into the fuselage and clamped the halves together over night. Pics later today.
One reason I was on a roll is because so far the fit on thi kit has been superb and the details provided are impressive. Really enjoying this Eduard 109 and may need to get another for GB 39.

Thanks all. Wojtek, those pics are good but, again I can't tell if the basket is natural metal or RLM 02.
Anyway, here are shots to catch up on progress. The Milliput seat cushion has been painted and drybrushed to represent scuffed leather and the kit PE seatbelts were then installed. Straps for the cushion are fashioned of painted Tamiya tape.
One needs to decide early whether to pose the aircraft with the cowl removed or closed as the number of bits to install on the gun deck and engine depend on that decision. I've decided to close the cowl so painting and detailing of the gun deck are not an issue. The instrument panel is PE and supplied with the kit. The dials are on a separate sheet and are sandwiched between the flat plastic backing and the outer PE panel with the bezels. Various PE levers and T pulls have also been added and the instrument faces got dabs of white glue to represent the glass but this is not really visible in the pics.
The fit of the parts is excellent.
Here we have the oil cooler which is made up of 5 parts, including the two PE grilles. The intake splitter slots into the grille. I had actually messed up on assembling this part as the radiator ended up too far forward and, as a result, the duct didn't fit properly into the fuselage. There is a stop that positions the radiator but I didn't quite line it up and this makes a big difference as the fit is quite precise. Fortunately, I was able to separate the cooler from the duct and reset it in the correct position.
At the tail end, I brushed black into areas that might be seen through the small tail wheel opening. I wasn't too fissed about getting a nice finish here as it's just there to create more shadow. Not that Eduard have provided the tiny screw jack that adjusted the tail plane incidence. Very thoughtful.
That's it for pics for now. As I said earlier, I've actually now got the fuselage haves glued together and curing so even if I wanted to change the basket finish, it's now probably too late.

Good stuff Andy.
I think that oxygen system guard probably was bare metal, possibly anodized alloy. The He-111 has similar ones at each oxygen point - not exactly the same as the Bf109, but very similar - and they look to be un-painted.

Very nice Andy. For what it's worth, Topshots Bf-109E-4 shows the basket as perhaps a faded 02, definitely not silver. Canadian bird, the registration is C-EML and there's a Canadian flag in the hangar. Sending you a page via PM
Regarding the basket.. I would say it wasn't painted. It is too shiny at edges both the top and the perforation. If you compare these edges to those painted of the cockpit side wall you can note the difference. It is very likely that the aluminium got the darker tinge because of the metal oxidation. But also it is very likely it could be anodised

Fixed with a long hairy stick with a dab of Alclad Dark Aluminum. And don't tell me to add the little black placard!!!!!
