Thanks Vic. Not much bench time this week but managed to get an hour in today.
Despite the decision to pose the model with the cowl closed, the engine block still needs to be installed so that the exhaust stubs have something to attach to. Before I realized this, I had added all the bits and pieces to the engine, only to realize late in the game that a lot of it needs to be left off so that the cowl will fit so I busted it all off and filed down the top plate. The exhaust stubs are all individual pieces and have the ends hollowed out so they are a rather nice feature.
The wheel wells were painted 02, then a secondary spray of darkened 02 was randomly applied. After that, a gloss coat was done and then a wash applied to enhance the ribs. The sidewalls were then glued on and after this all dries, I'll shoot a matte coat on.
That's it for this modest update. More soon I hope. Thanks for following.

I like it, I hate that they are making more and more "Have to build the engine" kits. It's nice to have on on display or the option to have it opened up if you wish to, but to have to build it and thin have to fight to close the cowl is a bit of a pain. IMHO, that is (nothing humble about me)

Thanks Don. No fighting really, at least not yet. Whether the lump of plastic holding the exhausts looks like an engine or a random hunk of plastic makes no difference to me. The shaping that I had to do was all my fault as I added too much stuff before reading the instructions properly.

Its a shame the engine will be covered, but I get the reasons why not to leave the cowl off as well.
Got a question though....why the gap between the firewall and the engine block? Why would Eduard do that.....I don't think that is correct. given the great effort put into making the engine plug otherwise authentic, why make a mistake like that?

Yes, the pictures shown by Wojtek are of the complete engine and indeed all the parts are included in the kit. It's not a mistake. The engine bearers, gun synchronization gear, guns, and the supercharger casing all foul the cowl so are to be left off. The back of the engine was also to be left off but I suppose it could have been left on, though for no reason.
Note the notches in the forwardmost exhaust stubs. The stubs are to be installed once the engine is in place through the opening in the cowl. Installation sequence is from back to front and the last ones need to slide in place through a tiny opening, hence the odd shape. Took a bit of coaxing but I managed it.

True Mike but I'd like to do another some day and have the engine open. I did two other 109's with open cowls but they were F's and therefore could be open one side and closed on the other - a nice compromise to having the entire nose gone as on the E.
